Abstract

iSILS is an innovative project that integrates technological innovation with architectural design and the latest in senior-friendly building materials to create alternative, functional and safe environments for seniors. The goal of iSILS is to reduce the care of seniors by caregivers and  family members, and to ease the load on the health care system as a whole. The use of integrated systems (the iSILS Brain) is central to iSILS in order to integrate four main areas to create a successful environment for independent living: Family and Community, Human Factors, Physical environment, and Health Care System. Recently, iSILS received a grant from the Industrial Research Assistance Program in support of the construction phase of this project. A second phase will look at integrated systems (iSILS Brain) and smart technologies related to self care and life skills. This seminar will describe the project, what has been accomplished to date and future plans.
