With more than 30 years experience in the IT industry, Michael Martineau has a proven track record helping private and public sector organizations employ technology for maximum benefit.  As one of Canada’s Internet pioneers, Mr. Martineau was a founding executive with two of Canada’s leading Internet Service Providers.

For the past 10 years, Michael has worked in a variety of roles with healthcare IT vendors including nearly 5 years with a well-known Canadian IT analyst firm.  In this role Michael directed and authored an annual syndicated study on the current and future use of IT in Canadian hospitals. Michael is currently President and co-founder, Avenant Inc., a company offering management and strategic consulting services. Through Avenant Inc., Michael works with a variety of organizations including healthcare providers and vendors to drive adoption and meaningful use of information technology.

Michael enjoys sharing his thoughts and insights with others.  He authors regular columns in Healthcare Information Management & Communications Canada magazine and Technology for Doctors (an online publication of Canadian Healthcare Technology magazine). Both columns offer perspectives and comments on eHealth trends and topical issues.   Michael also created and maintains a blog (eHealthMusings.ca) that offers comments and insights on the eHealth market, with an emphasis on the Canadian eHealth market.

In addition to his corporate commitments, Michael has always taken an active role in various technology related associations.  He served as a founding board member of CA*net, Canada’s first Internet backbone, a founding board member of SchoolNet, Canada’s award winning program that connected every school and library in Canada to the Internet, and founding Chair and board member of NovaKnowledge, a member-based organization dedicated to the development of a flourishing, sustainable knowledge economy in Nova Scotia.  Michael is active in COACH, Canada’s Health Informatics Association, and ITAC Health, through various committees, working groups, and task forces.
