Abstract

In this talk, Dr. O’Neill will introduce the Language Use Inventory (LUI), a standardized parent-report measure to assess early pragmatic language development in 18- to 47-month-old children. It meets urgent calls for the development of new standardized measures to assess pragmatics, especially for use with young children. She will provide a brief overview of its development, content, validation and recent standardization on over 3500 children. She will discuss its intended uses and a current pilot study assessing its implementation in family doctor’s practices and more informal drop-in community locations (Ontario Early Years Centres) in an effort to aid in the detection of early language delay among children.
