Brendan Seaton
 

Brendan Seaton is one of Canada’s leading experts and innovators in the management of eHealth risks, including privacy, security, safety, project and business risk. He has more than 30 years experience in health service administration, information system project management and information privacy and security in both the public and private sectors. He has been a leader in the development of health IT standards, particularly in the areas of security and privacy. He has held senior management and executive level positions in Veterans Affairs Canada, Ontario Blue Cross, and the Ontario Smart Systems for Health Agency. Brendan ran his own company, CareLink Incorporated, a consulting and educational services company specializing in project management, privacy and security, for more than 14 years. In recognition of his great contributions to this area, the Privacy Commissioner of Ontario invited Brendan to be a Privacy by Design Ambassador in 2013.

Brendan is currently the President of ITAC Health, the Health Care Division of the Information Technology Association of Canada. He provides leadership and support to 130 companies providing information and communications technology (ICT) products and services to the health sector. He also teaches workshops and webinars on privacy-related topics, including Privacy by Design, through the National Institutes for Health Informatics (NIHI). Since 2000, Brendan has trained more than 700 privacy officers and specialists across Canada.

In addition to his work at ITAC Health and NIHI, Brendan runs his own consultancy specializing in privacy impact assessment, privacy program development, Privacy by Design, information governance, information security and the safety of eHealth systems.
